I remember The Gates. My wife and I went to NYC for one day so we could see them in person. I am very glad that I had a chance to see them in person.

Great contrast between the gates and the hibernating trees. It would be interesting to have seen a photo of the gates with some summer foliage surrounding them. These gates are reminiscent of the Torii gates in front of some Shinto shrines in many respects, except for the lack of religious symbolism inscribed on the uprights. I wonder if Torii gates were any inspiration for their creation?
